Visitor Tunnel

Coming from Lasauvage, the “Atelier Fond” visitor tunnel is located 300 meters away. The train has traveled this far through a former main haulage tunnel that cuts straight through the mountain. About 50–60 meters of rock lie above the tunnel. The temperature here remains around 10–12°C year-round. Here you’ll experience what mining was like in the past—anything but easy or pleasant. During a short guided tour (about 20 minutes), you’ll learn more about the hard manual labor from around 1900 up until the introduction of compressed-air tools. If you’ve never held a jackhammer before, now’s your chance. After a brief demonstration of a compressor from around 1900, the train will take you another 1,100 meters to Doihl, where the train to Fond-de-Gras is already waiting for you.
