Repair of Steam Engine No. 1

Steam locomotive No. 1 was built in 1897 by Krauss in Munich and is the only surviving steam locomotive from the Fond-de-Gras ore mines.

In 2019, the locomotive was taken out of service for a comprehensive overhaul of its undercarriage and boiler system. The undercarriage was completely overhauled and repaired at the Meiningen Steam Locomotive Works. The boiler was built from scratch according to the original plans and manufactured at the ACIC plant in southern France. To comply with current safety regulations, modifications were made to obtain CE certification. At the same time, the operating pressure was increased from 12 bar to the original pressure of 15 bar.

The Minièresbunn will reassemble the locomotive during the winter months, with the goal of putting it back into service for the 2026 season.
